The first samples of a new prototype EXO blend arrived at our offices yesterday. The new formulation, called EXO-BIO has been specially created to increase the renewable content in compostable plastic films. We’re hopeful it may also enhance other characteristics of the film such as the speed of biodegradation.
In 2018 Italy and France established a minimum threshold of 40% bio-based content for applications such as compostable fruit and vegetable bags. Bio plastic manufacturers are therefore under pressure to develop resins which contain a higher amount of renewable content.
We’re now working with bio plastic company Novamont to see if EXO-BIO could provide a solution.
Our next step is to extrude some film for testing so watch this space for more news.
